Often we will begin new spreadsheets by
importing, referring to, or pasting existing
data.  The source data may not be
formated in a way that will make it easy to
extract the desired information.  Excel
text functions enable us to “clean up”
the source data by turning it into a
database.  Using a properly structured
database as our source greatly improves
the subsequent spreadsheet experience.
